My absolute favorite fish fry spot. I'm posting this review late but even as I type this...I'm contemplating calling in my usual order.
Always ask for a medium fry...it keeps the fish tender and juicy. I would snort their hush puppies if I could.
I'm only slightly disappointed that they don't have an in-house tartar sauce. But no one is perfect.
I recommend calling your order in so you don't have to wait too long.
If anyone cares to know, the Orange Roughy is the best! It's more expensive but you won't be disappointed. I promise -

I go to Penguin Fish at least twice a month or more. Sergio the cashier is great. Always pleasant and a hard worker.
The lunch specials are offered all day.
They will cook the fish as you like. For me that is medium, not to hard.
Best Fish in the Westside.
Parking can be tight. -

Mostly a take-out or take-away kinda run down looking place- NO COD or Haddock or Halibut! Only fish Sole and Orange roughy ($19.99). Overpriced! Had sole --it was decent. BUT the French fries or chips are bulk frozen krinkle fries. Saw them pouring them into oil. Awful. Asked for cole slaw, got potato salad. Next time that I crave fish and chips I will remember to go to a British restaurant like Kings head or OBriens. Very disappointed in this place. Gave 3 stars anyway for the breaded sole was original.

This is one of my fav places to eat in LA! Definitely mom and pop shop style with the best fried fish ever! The price is amazing, you get so much food and they make the hot sauce IN HOUSE. Get to penguins ASAP for some great fried fish. I recommend the red snapper and salmon.
